Digger J. Jones

DIGGERS DIARY

Wednesday 15th February, 1967

Linton kissed a girl, with both lips and all. And he closed his eyes and everything. Me and Stevie seen him, she was a white girl too.

Stevie asked what's it like? Linton said at first it was like licking a fish but later on a couple of goes at it and you sorta liked it.

Stevie said he'd rather lick a fish then kiss a girl and we all agreed to disagree.

DIGGER J JONES is the exciting first novel by acclaimed writer/filmaker Richard J. Frankland.

Set in Victoria in 1967 DIGGER follows the life of Digger J. Jones a ten year old Koorie boy growing up and learning about life in the months leading up to the May referendum which gave Aboriginal people the right to vote for the first time.

"You will laugh out loud!" 4 stars
- Good Reading Magazine

"This is an important book for young boys. It is a boy’s story that deals with male relationships, how males grieve, how males deal with anger and, indeed, how they deal with girls!" - Anita Heiss, award winning Indigenous Writer

The launch of DIGGER J. JONES coincides with the 40th Anniversary of the 1967 Referendum.

As an education resource the book is ideally suited for years P4-11 (adults can enjoy the book as well!)

"When you close your eyes and kiss a girl colour disappears".
